Your first visit with Dr. Stewart will last approximately 60 minutes.
This time will be used to:
- review key findings gathered from your comprehensive intake forms
- review your visual functional medicine health maps- the “Health Timeline” and “Health Matrix”
- gather any additional information to better understand present concerns
- set goals for healing
- establish initial steps in your treatment plan for health, and order lab work if necessary
Dr. Stewart is not currently enrolled as an in-network provider in Maryland. Therefore, she cannot directly bill insurance for services. However, you are welcome to request a “superbill” from Dr. Stewart to self-submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement or application to your deductible. Amount reimbursed or applied to deductible varies depending on the insurance provider and plan.
Dr. Stewart is happy to accept payment from Flexible Spending Accounts or Healthcare Savings Accounts, which are features of some insurance plans.
Yes – Naturopathic doctors can order any laboratory testing or imaging needed to help diagnose or manage your condition. This includes blood testing, stool testing, X-rays, MRI, CTs and many other types of labs and imaging.
Conventional blood work is typically billed through your insurance and is covered by most insurance providers and plans.
Specialty “Functional” Lab Tests are not billed through your insurance. However, you are welcome to request partial/complete reimbursement for the cost of specialty testing. Amount reimbursed varies depending on the insurance provider and plan.
This answer depends on the state. Since Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are trained to be primary care providers (PCPs) they are trained to prescribe and manage the majority of prescription medications that the general population is taking. There are many states where NDs are permitted to prescribe the majority of medications. However, currently, Maryland is not one of those states. Thus, Dr. Stewart will not be able to prescribe any medications for her patients. She will work closely with your PCP if it is determined that a prescription medication would be of value to bring on board. Dr. Stewart is passionate about expanding the scope of practice for NDs in Maryland so that they are free to practice in accordance with what they have been trained to do. Sometimes it’s hard to remember exactly when something happened. If you can’t narrow it down to the day, but know the month, input “XX/01/XXXX” to set it for the first day of that month. If you can’t remember the month, but know the year, input “01/01/XXXX”. This will help keep things as chronologically accurate as possible.
